![]() Lila is a sharp girl while Lenù is a shy one. Lila and Lenù, rooted in a rather poorer suburb of Naples, are two girls whose life is explored from childhood to adolescence in My Brilliant Friend. Television though has extensively evolved over the ages, especially with a wide range of genres, My Brilliant Friend still stands out in its depiction of baroque female friendship and queer desire. Elena Ferrante herself is very intricately complex- using a pseudonym the author has touched hearts with her remarkable literary reflection of women- My Brilliant Friend similarly, is a peculiar text to engage with, which not only keeps one hooked to the books but if browsed on screen, HBO adaptation of the first book has eight episodes covering the sixty two chapters of the novel, the expressiveness of the tumultuous simplicity and the queerness in the female friendship of Lila and Lenù makes a lasting impact. My Brilliant Friend, now an HBO adaptation for television, is the first novel in a series of four by Italian author Elena Ferrante. ![]()

![]() Readers looking for a story will not be disappointed, nor will readers looking for highly sympathetic and believable characters, or interesting insights into the ephemeral effects of reason and the "fiction" of law.Ĭompared to Little, Big which I consider perfect, I had two issues with Lud-in-the-Mist. Since Mirrlees was a poet, I expected that style to maintain through the book, but the text became much less dense after a few chapters as plot and characterization took over. The book begins in heavy descriptive mode - both enchanting and exhausting. There is the distinctive but clear author's voice and rich prose, there is the setting of events in the normal world but near to and constantly affected by the fairy world, there is the deep history behind the events of the story, and there is minimal element of actual magic to perhaps no more than simple delusion. ![]() That's no surprise given that his favorite is Crowley's Little, Big, which this book from 1926 resembles in many ways. ![]() Apparently Neil Gaiman in a foreword to a more recent edition calls this one of his ten favorite books. Every once in a while my deep dives into my library pull up a treasure. ![]() ![]() I had already started my watercolor journey by taking a class and YTing, so I had supplies and a little bit of experience going in, but even the beginning lessons were pretty useful to me. I was actually impressed with the organization of this book and I do believe that if someone takes the time to do all the lessons they can learn fairly quickly. The book is broken down by day with a time limit to set aside and the objective for that day. ![]() She eases readers into the world of watercoloring by talking about supplies, color theory, and a few easy practices. Jenna's style is very casual and it almost feels like a friend is teaching you. However, this book doesn't focus on style nor does it go into how to achieve that loose floral look, rather it's a good foundational book on how to get started with watercolors. Her specialty seems to be the type of loose florals that are pictured on the cover, which is not everyone's style. ![]() I came to know Jenna Rainey from following her on Instagram. ![]() ![]() ![]() Includes French glossary and historical information on travel and archaeology in the early twentieth century Member ofĬataloging source CANA American girl (Middleton, Wis.) 1955- Buckey, Sarah Masters Dewey number Intended audience 800 Intended audience source Lexile Interest level MG LC call number PZ7.B87983 LC item number St 2006 Reading level 5. Still, as the title implies, the author definitely knows how to write romance, and that should help readers overlook some of the cheesier bits. ![]() Brittany’s issues and dramas with her mother and her entourage come off like a groan-inducing after-school special. Alex and his friends are not fully fleshed out, and their voices and dialogue definitely don’t capture their characters or their experiences. ![]() The other elements come together as well, though they seem forced. Elkeles pens plenty of tasteful, hot scenes-including one where Brittany loses her virginity to Alex-that keep the pages turning. In a sense, they’re right for each other: Neither fits the mold they were put in, so it feels natural when a fiery romance begins to brew.
